Brothers, Gordon and Danny Groening, have been playing music together for over 30 years. They started playing as a duo, Gordy on the accordion at the age of 15 and Danny on the drums at the age of 8. Their parents encouraged them to pursue their musical endeavours and played a huge role in finding places for the two boys to play their music. This little duo had to have a name so Mom and Dad came up with the Gordanairs which combined the boys two first names together (Gor – Dan).

Practicing nightly throughout the week and playing out on weekend was pretty much normal for these two young musicians. Playing at cabarets and restaurants on a regular basis led them to getting more well know throughout the surrounding areas. The Vancouver Alpen Club, Austria Vancouver Club and the Mission Alpen Club are just a few of the places the two have played over the years.

With their popularity growing and the venues and engagements getting larger, Gordy and Danny decided it was a great opportunity to add members to the band. Today, the band consists of Rob Goddard on trumpet, who has been with them for over 15 years and Kenny Ogilvie on bass, who has played in the band almost 10 years. With the band having a more versatile sound, the Gordanairs have been regular performers at various Oktoberfests and Wine Festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest . The Mt. Angel Oktoberfest and St. Joseph’s Winery both in Oregon state, as well as the Bavarian town of Leavenworth, Washington are but to name a few.

The Gordanairs have become very well received not only for their European Musical style but also for their entertaining performances. Accompanied by their wives and families, they are able to entertain audiences with German traditions such as German Folk Dancing (Schuhplattling), songs played on the cowbells, alphorn performances and their always popular and unforgettable audience participation that has become a crowd favourite. All the entertainers wear German Authentic costumes and provide a delightful program that has been very well received by both young and old at all of their engagements.

The Gordanairs’ European Musical style and performances express their desire for keeping the German traditions alive. The band has just released their 6th recording titled European Style, and will continue to entertain and make music for all to enjoy. We’re sure that you will agree that their music and entertaining style display the love they have for European music and the timeless traditions that make up the music they play.

Gordon Groening - Accordion
Gordy has entertained audiences on the accordion for over 30 years. His impressive style is unique to the Gordanairs and a big part of their European sound. He takes great pleasure in learning new songs and adding them to the band’s extensive repertoire. Over the past few years Gordy has competed in several accordion competitions with much success. 1998 saw him take 1 st place in the Leavenworth Open in Leavenworth, Washington, 3 rd place in the 1997 Happy Hans Open at the Kimberley International Old Time Accordion Championship and 3 rd in the Duets category at the 1999 competition. The many years of playing European Music with his brother Danny has given Gordy a great sense of accomplishment and he hopes to continue to provide top quality dance music and entertain for many years to come!
Danny Groening – Drums
Danny has been playing the drums for over 25 years and with ease achieves the perfect balance of rhythm and accent in the music the Gordanairs perform. Over the years, Danny has enjoyed listening and playing all styles of music and has recently taken on the challenge of adding jazz piano to his musical accomplishments. He also contributes to the Gordanairs by arranging the music and playing many songs on the cowbells. Together with his wife Melissa, they will often entertain audiences with traditional German Folk Dancing known as Schuhplattling which is always a crowd favourite during Oktoberfest.
Rob Goddard – Trumpet
Rob adds wonderful trumpet sounds to the band and his improvising style is enjoyed by all who hear him play. He has played with the Gordanairs for over 15 years and brings a great deal of musical experience to their European sound with his precise technique and clarity. Rob is also an accomplished piano player and music teacher and has recently completed his Masters Degree in Music. His enthusiasm for the Gordanairs has extended to playing the Alphorn which has proven to be another crowd favourite.
Kenny Ogilvie – Bass Guitar

For the past 10 years, Kenny Ogilvie has been the man behind the bass guitar for the Gordanairs and has proven to compliment the bands unique style of “European Musik”. Kenny is a well respected musician in and around his home town of Vancouver , B.C. as he is an accomplished jazz musician and also lends his talents to playing as well as teaching guitar. His fine musical ability and easy going personality makes him a perfect fit for the Gordanairs entertaining style.

To the Gordanairs European Musik

My wife and I both acknowledge that we have never enjoyed dancing more than we have while listening to your band at the KIOTAC Saturday dance these last two years.

We purchased your two most recent CDs after your performance at the Platzl.  We are happy to say that your music arrangements are superb and the trumpet adds so much to your unique styling.

Good music to me is when it goes beyond the hearing and connects with your sole.

We know that the accordion is so capable of expressing all types of moods: energetic uplifting and happy sounds that can be one of the most positive things for a human to experience. I thank everyone in your industry for keeping it alive.

Thank you again for helping us enjoy ourselves so much.

To the Gordanairs European Musik

Carol and I spent another splendid Oktoberfest at Mt Angel, Oregon this past September. As usual your entourage is one of the main highlights of our visit. We have made the trek over 900 miles every year for the last 7 years to enjoy your music. You have a certain sparkle to your eyes and music, and I must day that we thoroughly enjoy it. I hope that you never tire of going to Mt Angel.

We purchased your European Musik CD this year and I must say that if I did not know you were from Canada, I would have sworn you were from the homeland.

So all the best to you and your families, and never give up your smiles as they are priceless.

Sincerely,

Carol & Fred Radmacher
